The Cingular iPhone Marriage: How Long Will it Last?
Technology enthusiasts everywhere are eagerly awaiting the release of the Apple iPhone on June 11, 2007. The iPhone will combine a cell phone with an iPod and advanced Internet device for the ultimate in phone technology. The touch screen interface is a new innovation in the world of the cell phone, and will certainly revolutionize the industry as we know it. The latest reports regarding the iPhone are that Cingular will be the company to offer it to the public. But how long will this relationship between iPhone and Cingular last? There are definitely some conflicting reports floating around out there.
The most unbelievable rumor yet persistent rumor is that the Cingular iPhone exclusive will last only two weeks, after which time the iPhone can be offered by any carrier. Many who are keeping up with this issue feel that the report may be a result of competitor jealousy, as the story stems from a T-Mobile employee who claimed their company will have the iPhone two weeks after its release. Those in the know are saying to take this rumor with a grain of salt, or perhaps an entire saltshaker. At this point it is hard to know how long Cingular will have the exclusive rights to offer the iPhone.
Another report that is basically confirmed at this point is that customers will need to sign a two-year contract before they can purchase the iPhone. Many customer are expressing their disapproval at this policy, and one can only wonder if the requirement will lower the sales of iPhone. The price is another factor which may affect how many iPhones are sold. This technological marvel will be offered in two different models, the cheapest of which is a whopping $499. The downside to the Cingular iPhone deal, besides the contract requirement and high price, is that Cingular service is not available in every area of the nation. This means that some people who may want the iPhone won’t be able to get it because they don’t have access to Cingular service.
Even with these disadvantages, it’s estimated that lots of consumers will snatch up the iPhone when it is released on June 11, 2007. After all, the iPhone is certainly the most impressive of its kind to date, and has a lot to offer. If you can afford it, don’t mind signing a two-year contract and have Cingular offered in your area, then the iPhone just might be the perfect phone for you!
